NM&I Week 10 Posting - Ekahau Webinar & NM&I Wrap Up
Ekahau Webinar
This past Thursday, I got the opportunity to attend a a webinar hosted by Ekahau and a few IT content creators. The webinar was titled Wireless Fundamentals: Forget Everything You Know About Wi-Fi. When the webinar was advertised to me, I expected a bit more of a fundamental overview of Wi-Fi basics, but it turned out to be slightly different. Although it wasn't exactly what I expected, I learned a lot. They started by covering frequency bands, 2.4 and 5 GHz. They also discussed 6 GHz which has become available in the past few years. After covering frequency bands and a few other basics, they transitioned to talking about Wi-Fi surveys. 5 types of surveys were discussed: Wi-Fi design, Pre- & Post- Deployment, Periodic Health, Troubleshooting/Assessment Surveys. The hosts stated that the purpose of these surveys were to collect data in order to optimize the network and stay ahead of changes. In order to perform these surveys, they talk about Ekahau's Sidekick 2. The Sidekick 2 is a survey tool that scan signals as well as help to sketch building floor plans. It was fascinating to learn about a tool that can serve as a fantastic resource to design and troubleshoot networks. They have a Wi-Fi Day planned for Sept. 19th, so I am looking forward to learning more.
NM&I Wrap Up
I have really enjoyed getting to dive into the world of networking. In addition to course content, I have watched videos, read blogs, and listened to many podcasts about networking. I think the networking field is one that I would do well, but also be challenged. As for blogging, I still really enjoy this process and I plan to continue posting moving forward. I also feel that I have improved my blogging skills, and I think they will be useful as I work to finish my degree and move through my career.
