VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. A VPN extends the reach of a network through an encrypted tunnel. It also offers a higher level of security when browsing the internet. It's not the be-all and end-all of keeping your information secure, but it does play and important role in doing so.
VPNs encrypt data and send it through the connection tunnel. This prevents any eavesdropping or snooping by someone while connected to public WiFi. VPNs also disguise the user's IP address. A user can choose a server to access, and their IP address becomes the VPN server they selected. Because of the ability to choose VPN servers, user's can essentially change where they are in the world. This allows user's to access content or media available in that country that wasn't available to them before.
I currently use ExpressVPN. I started using ExpressVPN earlier this year while on vacation. The condo my family and I were staying at did not have a private network. I was nervous about connecting to it, so I looked into VPNs to help keep me secure. I chose ExpressVPN as I found I like its features the best. ExpressVPN's servers are run entirely on RAM, no hard drives. This means no user information is stored. That paired with its compatibility with all of my devices, it was a no-brainer.
